SX 798627

To launch the weekend at Sea Change historically we have had opening rituals from the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, a punk set from The Membranes and several fiercely fought cricket matches. For the 2020 edition and our online debut, we are very proud and more than a bit overwhelmed to present ‘SX 798627’, an exclusive new work from Richard Norris and Sam Wiehl. It is Dedicated to the life and times of Sea Change 2020.

It will be streaming all weekend and is the perfect headspace to find yourself ready for a weekend of exploration.

Welcome in.

Sean O'Hagan In Conversation

Drift have always been huge fans of Sean O'Hagan's The High Llamas, one of the finest and most deliciously off kilter bands around. Last year he released his second solo LP - 'Radum Calls, Radum Calls' - nearly thirty years after his solo debut, how’s that for paths taken and not taken! It’s clear we simply can’t know what the future brings.

We're thrilled to present Sean in conversation at Sea Change 2020 with Drag City's Simon Russell, talking High Llamas, Stereolab, Brian Wilson and everything in between.

First Play: caroline - ‘Bergensbanen’

We’re honoured to present a new and exclusive work from caroline, a band that we are very excited about. They explain;

“This is a new piece that we’ve written specifically for Sea Change’s online festival and have recorded while in isolation. Each instrument or part was recorded solo in each person's respective homes, using a graphic score as a way to communicate without being together in the same room. With the score functioning only as a rough guide, compiling everyone's parts digitally was the first instance of us hearing the song. The video footage was taken on a train in Norway in February of this year. We hope you like it.”

Saturday Night

Nighttimes at Sea Change over our four short years have turned up some iconic moments. Rival Consoles and Robert Raths turning an industrial unit into a sonic cosmos. Gold Panda taking that same building on a full on trip before Blanck Mass literally broke the place. Chris Carter locking the beats into our ballroom, setting up John Doran bringing ABBA to the stereo. Gazelle Twin and Adrian Sherwood making an abandoned Gymnasium shake. James Holden making magic on our first outdoor main stage and our proudest moment yet with The Chairman… the Guv'nor… Sir Andrew Weatherall in our field.

Tonight, the party goes as late as you want. It goes as loud as you want. It goes wherever you want. We’ve set up some amazing routes and we’re all going to take a trip. Tell us where you’re going, keep in touch.
