SATURDAY 27th MAY 2023:
The Barrel House Ballroom
15:15 - The Vive
Last year, we ran an emerging talent competition for some of the young bands from the region to play at the 2022 weekend. We were totally blown away by The Vive, they have swagger well and truly beyond their years; some even said too much! It’s excellent to work with the ever-supportive Jamming Station team to showcase them at Weekender.
17:00 - Eyes Of Others
Described as making 'post-pub couldn't get in the club music', Edinburgh based John Bryden can undersell with a smile, because his self-titled debut - released just this month dropped - is a beguiling treasure; twilight hour music that trades in anything goes tapestries of texture and tone.
19:00 - M(h)aol
When Drift Records won't stop going on about a band and Steve Albini won’t stop going on about a band, you know there is going to be some serious clatter! The Irish intersectional feminist five piece make the kind of music with equal menace and humour, it’s vital stuff. Believe the hype.
21:00 - Lonelady
Headlining the ballroom this year is Manchester post-punk composer Lonelady, an artist who has been on the Sea Change wishlist for the last half-decade. Her most recent ‘Former Things’ album was a masterclass in driving maximalism and we’re honestly so thrilled to welcome her to town.
22:00 - Finders Keepers [DJ]
We’re utterly delighted to welcome Andy Votel and the Finders Keepers label to town for a DJ set that very well could end up going anywhere. For fans of psychedelia, jazz, folk, funk, avant-garde and whacked-out movie musak… but most of all those prepared to relinquish control to the spinning wheels of alternative pop history.
